MEET YOUR DESIGNER
I fell in love with interior design at just 8 years old. During a "Take Your Daughter to Work Day" at the architecture firm where my mom worked, I entered the building materials room, and everything just clicked. That experience ignited my passion for design and led me to The Art Institutes of Minnesota, where I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design.
With 9 years of professional experience in both commercial and residential design, I’ve developed a deep expertise in specifying cabinets—it feels almost like a second language to me. My relentless curiosity drives me to continuously expand my design knowledge, which I use to deliver exceptional customer service to my clients.

I started Melissa Mathieu Designs in 2019 with encouragement from my amazing husband. We are highschool sweethearts who have been married for 5 years. We have an amazing little boy that we are so grateful for. Our son and our 2 hound dogs keep us on our toes. We love to spend quality time together, especially while being outside enjoying the great Minnesota weather. I am a firm believer in making a life you love. Not everyone gets excited to make a space come together like I do, nor know how. However, everyone deserves to have a beautiful home that they deeply love. A home that brings them peace and functionality. With my unique ability to be creative, mixed with my attention to details, I am able to bring that vision to life for my clients. How much will it cost to hire your services for our custom decorating project?Your home and your project are one of a kind, just like you! The size of your project, the scope of work and how much you would like us to be involved will be key factors in determining the investment amount needed. If you refer to the services page of our website, you will be able to book a 15 min consultation call to talk more about pricing and your project.

Is my job too small for you?No project is too small for us. We’re here to assist with transforming your house into a home filled with lasting memories. Whether you need a one-time interior design consultation, detailed 3D designs for entire floors, custom one-room designs, or even just paint color selections, we’re ready to help with all your décor needs. Hiring a decorator is expensive, it’s a luxury, right?If you value your time and want to avoid compromising the final result in the hopes of saving a few bucks, our service is well worth the investment. As Red Adair said, “If you think hiring a professional is expensive, wait until you hire an amateur.”

I usually rely on trades to give me free advice, isn’t this good enough?This ‘free advice’ can sometimes be the costliest. My trades prefer when we are on hand to make decisions pertaining to the design rather than advising on areas of a project that are not their area of expertise. Some trades may make a suggestion based on it being the easiest option for them to get the job done quicker, rather than actually having your best interests in mind. If you are really lucky, you may even get ‘leftovers’ from a previous project they worked on if you ask for suggestions of finishes and fixtures. (No, we are not kidding, we have seen this happen!)

Are we involved in the design process or is it out of our control once we hire your services?Design projects are very much a collaborative process. The ‘getting to know you’ phase at the start of the project allows us to understand your needs, your lifestyle & your investment amount. We ask a lot of questions and discuss in depth your requirements for each space. Our goal is to make the process as simple and stress-free as possible. While working together, we build a partnership with you and establish trust. Our working relationship with you is extremely important to us. We ask that you kindly allow us to do what we do best and let us curate a design based on our detailed assessment of your needs and wants. You have the final say on decisions before any orders are placed or any work by trades gets underway.
